Frequently asked questions¶
Everything you need to know before you join. Still stuck? Ask us in Discord — we're a friendly bunch.
What do I need to join?
Three things: a flight simulator, a free vAMSYS account, and a Discord account to reach the community. There's no application essay and no interview — if you fly sims, you're welcome here. The How to join page walks you through it in four short steps.
Is it free?
Yes — joining vAfrica Airlines and flying with us is completely free. There's no membership fee and no catch; all you need is a vAMSYS account, which is also free to create.
Which simulators are supported?
All the major desktop simulators: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020, X-Plane 11 and 12, and Prepar3D / FSX. If your sim can connect to vAMSYS, you can fly with us.
Do I need to fly on VATSIM or IVAO?
No — online networks are entirely optional. You're welcome (and encouraged) to fly on VATSIM or IVAO if you enjoy live ATC, but flying offline is perfectly fine and your flights count exactly the same either way.
Are there activity requirements?
None. Fly as often — or as little — as you like. There are no minimum hours, no fixed rosters, and no risk of being dropped for taking a break. vAfrica is built around flying at your own pace, whenever it suits you.
How do I track my flights and progress?
Everything — bookings, flight tracking, hours, and progression — lives on vAMSYS, the platform we run on. This site is just the front door; once you're a pilot, vAMSYS is your home base.
